The music coming out of New Zealand in the early 1980’s was some of the most critically-acclaimed and interesting and Toy Love was a large part of that sound... The Clean - Mister Pop (2009, Morr Music) - this is, to date, the legendary and wonderful New Zealand pioneers’ most recent album. It’s also their best, a stunner from start to finish from the opening (mostly) instrumental “Loog” to psych-pop of the highest order like “In the Dreamlife You Need a Rubber Soul.” If you see one of these for a reasonable price, snap them up. This is rare and most importantly, great.
25 years and you'd think I'd be a real Thom Yorke or Bob Dylan by now! The Clean - Anything Could Happen #theclean
i hope u guys discover some new music u like from this!! lmk if u have any qs or want to know the name of any of these albums:)
Various - “Tuatara - A Flying Nun Compilation” (1985). This compilation of previously unreleased songs by New Zealand artists was the first real showcase (for the rest of the world) of the variety and quality of the New Zealand bands creating their own independent rock scene. The LP contains a great cross section of bands on the Flying Nun label: The Clean, The Gordons, Fetus Productions, The Verlaines, Children’s Hour, Marie And The Atom, The Chills, Sneaky Feelings, The Great Unwashed, The Bats, Expendables and the Tall Dwarfs. The CD version also includes 15 tracks, one track per band, plus bonus tracks by Look Blue Go Purple, Scorched Earth Policy and the Doublehappys. ———————————————————————— **A tuatara is a nocturnal burrowing lizardlike reptile with a crest of soft spines along its back, now confined to some small islands off New Zealand. 🇳🇿 ———————————————————————— #handpickedrecordoftheday #recordoftheday #flyingnun #flyingnunrecords #dunedin #newzealand #theclean #talldwarfs #thebats #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcollector #vinyligclub #vinylcollectionpost #vinyljunkie #vinyladdict #vinyllover #cratedigger #nowspinning #nowplaying #records #onmyturntable #recordcollector #recordcollection
The Clean - “Anthology” (2014). Merge Records reissued this four LP compilation box set by The Clean in 2014. In the history of New Zealand rock, The Clean are the foundation for other bands to follow, releasing their debut in 1978, at a time when other New Zealand bands were covering American and British rock songs. Instead of following their peers, The Clean only played their own music, and helped nurture a local New Zealand scene that may have accumulated the best great bands per capita of any country in the world. Contrary to popular stories, The Clean's debut single "Tally Ho" was not the first Flying Nun label release - The Pin Group's "Columbia" single was the first on Flying Nun, but “Tally-Ho” changed music in New Zealand forever: the song reached the Top 20 in New Zealand (and recording costs were only $60 NZD). From their humble beginning, The Clean never pursued convention; they did not even record a full-length album until after they reunited in 1989 following a several-year break. Even today, the band is intentionally an on-again/off-again effort for its constituent members Sir David Kilgour, Hamish Kilgour and Robert Scott, who each have other numerous side projects.. The Clean’s “Anthology” box set is a great compilation of their best work, not to be overlooked. ———————————————————————— #handpickedrecordoftheday #recordoftheday #theclean #newzealand #indierock #mergerecords #boxset #tallyho #flyingnun #dunedinsound #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcollector #vinylcollectionpost #vinyligclub #vinyljunkie #vinyladdict #nowspinning #nowplaying #onmyturntable #cratedigger #records #recordcollector #recordcollection
