Day 11. #Marichyasana C The first seated twist in the Primary Series (Ashtanga yoga) Twists are important asanas for spinal health; they keep the spine flexible (a rigid spine is more prone to injury as it can not absorb shock) and bring fresh blood supply to the spinal nerves. Benefits * has an effect on the abdominals, alternately stretching and contracting as you twist one way and then the other. * Spinal twisting enhances prana flow all around the abdomen, nourishing the pancreas, kidneys, stomach, small intestines, liver, and gall bladder while compressing and squeezing out excess flatulence that becomes trapped and uncomfortable in the body. * Twisting should take place in the thoracic spine (where the ribs attach to the spine), the thoracic vertebrae are designed to twist. * Twisting also stretches the intercostals (muscles between the ribs) freeing the breath in the ribs. * Tight intercostals inhibit back bending, so twisting asanas will make back bending easier! Milrinone is a positive ionotrope used in the short-term management of acute exacerbations of heart failure. Like minoxidil, it is a vasodilator as well but has a different MOA. Minoxidil is a potent arteriolar vasodilator, and is used when hydralazine (also a arteriolar vasodilator) is not effective. Minoxidil must be used in combo with a diuretic and a beta-blocker it’s side effects include water retention and reflex stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. First, the mechanism of action of both classes of drugs are different. I wanted to share my day with whomever cares. I left my house this morning at 6am and drove to work with anxiety, palpitations, and chest pains. I usually feel pretty upbeat in the mornings: I have my playlist ready, Starbucks on deck, and I get to view the skyline of Downtown Fort Worth (no matter how long I've lived here, it still has me in awe). So I'm at work and everything is going okay but I cant shake the anxiety (I decided right then, "my day sucks"). But then, I had my first pedi patient of the day come for his well child. His mother spoke Spanish but our little guy was bilingual. He tapped me on leg to get my attention (he's 4 yrs old) and said, "Ma'am, 'Cu'e me. Cu'e me!", and I laughed, picked him up, and hugged him. I then started to feel better. As the day went on, certain things happened: I got a belated Christmas gift; didn't expect that. "This is for you, Ilicia." Next, I got a patient that saw me and was mad cause he just knew he would be misunderstood. I asked him, "Habla ingles?" He frowned and said, "No". "Esta bien. Yo soy Ilicia. Seguime, por favor. Subir para su peso." Him: "Habla espanol? Me: "Poquito"😉 He smiled. End of the day, a little elderly lady needed help with her appointment letter and had questions about the instructions. We were about to close; no interpreter, or language line. We were locking up. I took the paper from her, took my time, spoke slowly (I had to think about what I wanted to say and if it was right), and answered her questions. Her daughter was outside, I let her out and locked the door behind her. A few seconds after I turn around, her daughter runs to the door to basically confirm what I told her (she speaks english).
