Quinoa for breakfast, lunch or dinner? Quinoa is one of the few plant based foods that contains all nine essential amino acids. It’s high in protein, fibre and provides you with more copper, fibre, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc than corn, wheat or barley. It’s also gluten free. Some tips for cooking quinoa: rinse before cooking. This removes the bitter coating, saponin, that is on the seeds. One cup provides 220 calories, 3.5g fat and high quality protein to keep you feeling full longer. Quinoa is versatile use in place of rice or oats. It’s gorgeous in any salad hot or cold. Be warned it has no taste really. It’s what I call a flavour absorber food. Cook in stock as one option. Add your favourite spices.
