Old friend, so good to be by your side again. Old friend, so good to see you after so long. Old friend, I wish I would be by your side till the end. Old friend, you are more than just an old friend, you are still my friend. I am sorry I can’t be there with you-I’m sorry you don’t understand where I’ve gone or why I’m not with you, friend. Friend, I will be by your side in the end.
Victoria Derby Review: Race time = 2:34.31 Two major stories out of the race were the dominance of Extra Brut and the complete flop of favourite Thinkin’ Big. The 2500m feature for the three-year-old colts and geldings was turned into a true staying test by rank outsider Seberate who was actually referred to by some as a “pacemaker”. Some punters believe he was sent out to set the race up for stablemate Mickey Blue Eyes who ended up being very unlucky. Extra Brut relished the genuine tempo after sitting well back in the field with cover from the wide gate. When Johnny Allen pulled him to the outside, he just went bang! He hit the front a long way from home but their was nothing Allen could do about it, he was absolutely bolting at the top of the straight. It was a tough effort to then stave off all other challengers and give Darren Weir the first Victorian Derby success of his career. With that win, the son of Domesday took his career earnings over the $1.4 million mark in his first preparation! Stars of Carrum was very good at odds also from back in the field. He was running on strongly and will be a good stayer next prep. Chapada was very unlucky. He should probably have been right in the finish had it not been for a chequered passage in the straight. He hit the line very well and will be a serious racehorse when he puts it all together. Very encouraging performance from him. Sikorsky was impressive but looked a little bit green still. Will be taking improvement from this preparation. Aramayo was strong down the outside but probably just peaked on his run a little after doing a bit of extra work. Savvy Oak was satisfactory and Visao was quite good from right out the back. Thinkin’ Big was ordinary. Didn’t run 2500m and is looking for the paddock. Extra Brut was phenomenal really. He’s a very classy animal. One to watch out of the race might be Visao or Chapada. I really liked Visao’s effort. He was held up for much of the straight but found the line nicely when he got out. He’s a nice horse. Chapada will be winning soon. If not in the coming weeks then next preparation for sure 👍.
How bloody good is this little mare!? 🏇🏻💨 Dainty Tess came from last on the turn once again and got over the top of them in the Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes on Saturday. Despite being well off the leaders on straightening, she was still able to gun them down late and allowed @parnzyjock
to celebrate the win as she crossed the line. She reeled off a last 600m sectional of 33.34 (0.14 seconds quicker than the last 600m of her win in the Crawford Stakes two weeks ago). All roads now lead to the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes for this freakish daughter of War Chant... 👀 @morton_racing #DaintyTess
