So absolutely killed my hamstring and glute day tonight with a special someone that I will probably be introducing a little bit later on down the road. Constantly changing goals, going through rough times, the ups-downs, dealing with my mental health - anxiety and depression at its peak, etc. I guess it’s a part of growing up but this year has affected me the most. One thing that hit me hard was the gym. I know it’s not a big deal, iTS juST FiTNesS lol. But lifting was my therapy. I lost my motivation which was so disappointing because I know I worked my ass off to get to where I am. I stopped gymming less and less. At times it would be a struggle to get back to the gym even once a week. Recently I’ve been trying to push myself, no filming, no pictures and I’ve been feeling a lot better. Im starting to enjoy lifting again. Taking it slow, at my own pace this time. Anyway sorry for my long rant, I don’t even know if anyone’s still reading. But thanks for sticking around. I appreciate y’all. ☺️💖
Myself and a cloned version of myself walk into a bar. We’re identical, except “real me” is rocking a very distinguished mustache. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ The bartender kindly offers both us a tequila shot: ⠀⠀ 👨🏼Mustached me: “I’m good fam, I’m trying to quit. Shit gives me the worst headaches, and makes my decisions v questionable.” *Eventually caves and takes the tequila shot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👱🏼‍♂️Cloned me: “Nah homie. I don’t drink tequila.” ⠀⠀⠀ Real me and cloned me have both had lots of run-ins with tequila in the past. We’re also both actively working to quit drinking tequila. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👨🏼Mustached me identifies as someone “trying to quit drinking tequila”, but is still very clearly in its vices. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👱🏼‍♂️Cloned me has no trouble turning down said shot, he’s just someone that “doesn’t drink tequila”. ⠀⠀⠀ 🤔Soooo how does this weird-ass example apply to you? ⠀⠀⠀ Getting in great shape comes down to building new habits. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Your current behaviors are simply a reflection of your current identity. What you do now is a mirror image of the type of person you believe that you are (either consciously or subconsciously). ⠀⠀⠀ To change your behavior for good, you need to start believing new things about yourself.“ -James Clear, Atomic Habits (Check this book out. It’s crazy. I pull a lot from it in this post.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✖️We typically set “outcome based goals”. E.g. “I want to lose 50 lbs”. Problem? Outcome-based habits don’t usually lead to long-term change. They rely on motivation. Sometimes you just won’t be motivated. Now what? ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t focus on WHAT you want, focus on WHO you want to become. Ask yourself, “Who is the type of person that could get the outcome I want?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ Decide the type of person you want to be. 2️⃣Prove it to yourself with small wins. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now just act as that person. Example: 👇🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You want to lose weight? ☑️Become the type of person that never misses a workout. ▶️Your small win could be simple as making it to the gym twice this week. “I’m the type of person that always makes it to the gym.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As your wins add up, you start to identify more as “that person”. “You’re not the type of person that needs motivation”. This is just what you do. 👨🏼
