on why he chose an all Asian-American cast for his latest video “Waste it on Me” featuring @bts.bighitofficial.
Watch it now on YouTube! #Repost @steveaoki
・・・ When Waste it On Me came out and from the get go had so much support from around the world that’s when I realized that this song represents more than just me and bts. It’s bigger than music and we hope to show other asians they are also a part of the global commercial musical landscape. Because of how i felt about the asian footprint in music culture i wanted to make the music video to reflect an entirely asian cast with an asian director. The music video tells the story of waste it on me in an incredibly funny witty and clever manner. Please watch it and hope u enjoy our music video. (Photographed just some of the cast and crew from the video. Thanks to all the amazing actors and filmmakers who made this happen!) #aanow #aapi #asianamerican #steveaoki #bts #wasteitonme
In Albert Hur’s latest article he discusses collective power, group imagination, and how the personal is political. Where are all our Asian American superheroes? I remember 15yrs ago standing in front of an A&R who wanted to sign me but his exact words were that, “It’s not the time for Asian People to make it yet.” I am very glad that people have supported my path and for those who didn’t that it helped me challenge my insecurities to condition my brain to thinking “I can’t please everyone”. It has made me a much confident performer. I’ll continue to be different, unique, and me. #altertheicons @reebokclassics #sponsored
Hey friends! Sending you a warm hello today. I’m Cat, the noodle-loving, pup obsessed, belly-laughing lady behind Eat Well Eat Real. I realize that 90% of my posts are of food (I love eating well, can you tell?), and I wanted to take a moment to say I’m thankful you’re here and I appreciate you making space in your day for me💕. ::::: Sharing a bit about me: 🔅Cali born and raised! Moved to NY for grad school at NYU and I call Brooklyn home. I’m a chef and I’ve worked in nutrition ed and public health for nearly 10 (?!) years. Past food jobs include culinary educator, caterer, and baker at a vegan bakery 🍪. . 🔅My ultimate comfort foods are pho, street tacos and Vietnamese crepes. Cali has my heart for all three! . 🔅I’m wildly passionate about making healthy eating approachable and uncomplicated. I created Eat Well Eat Real to help folks enjoy tasty and healthy food, make lasting healthy changes without fad diets, and gain kitchen confidence. I LOVE supporting others to follow through on their vision for health and show up for themselves. . 🔅Travel is one of my biggest loves. Four things I always pack with me: my fave teabags 🍵, energy bars, magnesium pills, and my chef’s knife (local trips only 😜). ::::: 📷: @hellolesmunoz

Issue 02 (link in bio for purchase). — “My imposter syndrome starts to creep up again and I begin to question: Am I the right person to do this work? Will I ever be more than a stereotype? Will our work mean anything, to anyone, at all? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But you once said to me that if we waited for qualified leaders, then we’d never have any.” —Karen Mok — Overjoyed to illustrate this poignant, vulnerable essay written by two of the strongest women I’ve ever met.
I have this on my laptop (covering my webcam). Some people have laughed at it. "Why do you have that there? In case you forget to walk? 😂" I have that there as a reminder to slow down and consistently make small steps. I don't need to solve my problems in one night. I don't need to make a leap in progress in one week. I just need to make small steps consistently. Left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot. It's not glamorous. Most of the time it's not really interesting enough to put on the gram, but it's progress. That's what matters.
What are some things you want to learn more about next year? 🙋🏻♀️ . For me, here are a few: America and natives - historically/politically, being fluent in talking about gender, relationships between communities of color, the voice of asian American women, and local politics.
looking gorgeous in our OMONI Label drape cap sleeve top! Made of premium organic and recycled materials, right here in the US. Unfortunately, all colors sold out EXCEPT! 1-L & 1-S left in NAVY! $53!
7.5/10 - Little fires everywhere by Celeste Ng. I didn’t realise that I had read this book in 4 days!!! It’s written seemingly like a thriller, set in this idyllic environment (think desperate housewives) and two outsiders Mia and Pearl come and “shake” up this sense of perfection that exists in Shaker Heights. I kept reading and reading, excited to get back to it. The character developments reminded me of people I knew and some who I would never ever know. Mia, an artist has a past, much like all of us and the trial about a Chinese baby for adoption threads the whole theme about mother and child together. In fact, the whole book is actually about the life and choices about mothers and their children. I find it exciting that I’m reading an Asian American author and the representation within the book of Asian babies is so profound, it makes me feel that the more people read about it the differential themes they will bring out. Definitely read if you want a great holiday read! It’s so quick to get through and you’ll feel completely enthralled by it. You won’t want to put it down :)
I’ve got my doubts but I own my strengths. #AfterAll
Thank you to those who’ve put me on your rotations sonically. 🙏 I am full of thanks-giving. . 📷: @joules.tfv

⭐️ Oh Hello, Hello Kitty. —————————————- If Disney is the happiest place on Earth, then this place should be a close second. ————————————- Hi from Odakyu Tama Center Station, Western Tokyo❗️I’m at the Sanrio Puroland theme park. Otherwise known as Hello Kitty Land. This children’s character is one of the few that crosses over into pop culture status. Similar to Mickey Mouse and Star Wars, both kids and adults enjoy buying t-shirts , posters and accessories. —————————————— ⭐️ Its something you never really notice unless: —————————————————- A. You have no idea what your niece likes so it’s the safe choice of airport souvenir. ——————————— B. You realize “Hey ❗️Where is the mouth❓” ————————————————- C. You shockingly find out Hello Kitty was created in the image of a young, British girl dressed in a kitten costume. No joke❗️ ———————— D. All of the above. ————————————— (Pics taken by iPhone SE)
Influential AAPI in Politics—Hiram Fong (October 15, 1906 – August 18, 2004), was an American businessman and politician from Hawaii. The son of illiterate Cantonese immigrants, he overcame poverty to become the first Asian-American United States Senator, serving from 1959 to 1977. - In 1964, Fong became the first Asian-American to run for his party's nomination for President of the United States. To date, he is the only Republican to ever hold a Senate seat from Hawaii and was the only Asian-American to seek the presidential nomination of the Republican Party until Bobby Jindal in the 2016 primaries. - #channelcb #politics #asianamerican #aapi #hawaii #hiramfong #influential #senator

For 8 years since 2009, I tried to persuade my parents to invest in the stock market. Stocks were “on sale” then, and the old shopaholic in me wanted to buy (with deliberation of course). . My parents felt more comfortable investing in real estate. If the RE market goes down, they still have a tangible asset. I have realized that everyone has different risk tolerance and investing style. What’s yours? . P.S. You will see posts with my succulents. I love them because they easily compound and that keeps my interest high. 😊 I mean propagate. 😅 @taysgarden3 #taysjourney3
🚨YOU GUYS!!! #GrandmaSaidNoEP
comes out this Friday!!! I’ll be playing some of it tomorrow night with #celloTorin @silverlakelounge
, 10pm 🎶 . . . I shared a room with my grandmother for most of my life. Growing up, as an Asian girl, there were a lot of things I wasn’t allowed to do. So I spent a good amount of time scheming, to which I credit my organizational and problem solving skills 🤓😈 As it turns out, my grandmother was way more of a rebel in her time than I’ve ever been, and I think she secretly wanted me to break out of the mold too❤️
You can still call me Dr. Lin, but I’m mostly a wandering musician...aka every Asian mom’s nightmare 😁🤘🏼 #GrandmaSaidNoEP
comes out on Friday!!! . . . . Look out for the new @musiciansfriend
catalog 🙌🏼 and stop by @thelexingtonbar

Always lurking somewhere... Listen to #WhenImGone
on Spotify now! Link in bio 👀 . . . When I’m gone, who will sing through the darkness? When I’m gone, who will stand up in silence? When I’m gone, will you even notice?... . . . ...Corporate doesn’t, but patients do ❤️ In fact, one of my sweet olds from last year calls me every now and then to let me know that she’s still alive, she still hears my voice telling her to pick up her feet, and that I’d better keep singing or else 💪🏼 Somehow she always knows when I need it the most.
