Tonight is opening night for Nauti Sailor @jessicajayneallison
’s new exhibition ‘Floral Threads’! Jess’ exquisite embroidery work will be on display at @lyttletonstores
in Lawson, Blue Mountains. Opening night is tonight 6-7.30pm! The show will be open for the whole of November, so lots of time to go have a peak. ‘Floral Threads’ is a collection of hand-embroidered garments and accessories inspired by traditional craftswomanship and the beauty of Australian wildflowers. Despite being confined to the home and disregarded as a form of ‘fine art’, domestic needlework has long been a means of feminine artistic mark-making - a way of observing and processing the surrounding world. Inspired by the 19th Century Arts and Crafts movement and artists such as May Morris, Margaret Preston and May Gibbs, this collection of work draws the connection between the domestic world and our natural environment by using embroidery to depict the wild and majestic nature of native flora on items that can be used and worn while traversing these spaces.
