Our bodies are constantly under pressure. We avoid life and to do so we are trying to control our bodies. Culture, society, beliefs...We are told how to move (or, more exactly, how not to). Our bodies are suffocating. Do not bend forward, sit straight, do not sleep like that...you have a dysfunction, a twisted pelvis, a bad posture, it's your fascia...oh gosh, we are told to stay away from life and movement! So yeah, we go to yoga, pilates, gym...we wanna be straight, strong...but the body doesn't care about all that. This is so irrelevant regarding your pain, and in most cases we are using activities as a way to run away from our life. So here's what I'd like to share with you guys. It is something I'm practicing everyday and I've been doing it for years now: Forget the body that you see, and start paying attention to the body that you feel. Close your eyes, something appears in your consciousness. A shoulder maybe? No shape, but a feeling. Is it tensed? Sharp? Sore? Hot? Cold? Let it melt down, and see what appears next. A hip? an emotion? A movement maybe? Let all that appear in your consciousness, do not cease it. Stay there, 'at the still point of the turning world' as TS Eliot would call it in his poem: ▪ 'At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless; Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is, But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity, Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards, Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point, There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.' ▪ Experience your body, stop running away from it. Experience breathing this way, experience moving this way (this is basically yoga, traditional yoga at least). Go to the gym if you like it, or do rock climbing, or swim, or dance, or just move 10 minutes on your yoga mat. Do that when you are angry and feel what is anger. Do it when you feel down or excited. Practice that when you are listening to music, when you are seeing your partner. It gives infinite space. Please, let it dance.
