We are so proud to be able to be a part of the jiu-jitsu world! 💪🥋 - Our Black Belt CBD Invitational event last month in Las Vegas made history by being the first event of it’s kind to offer the same purse for both the men’s and the women’s divisions. - Our team works to support competitors from training to competition and to help create gender equality amongst male and female competitors. These are the first steps of getting there, and we are grateful to be apart of them. - We will be putting on more events like this one soon, so stay tuned! 🏅 - #MartialArts #Equality

Here, I’m coping with a leg injury with the RIICE method: Rest, Ice, Ibuprofen, Compression and Elevation. Taking this opportunity to share some thoughts on dealing with injury with an eye to the longevity of our practice. 💡 I realize this video is uneventful, but indulge me because that’s kind of the point. If there’s one thing I know about training for sure, it’s that you shouldn’t push through injury. If you tweak something in sparring (like I did today) stop. I know so many great athletes who quit because of injuries made worse by pride. What exactly is the logic of going out on your shield? Compare the person who’s out for two months because they ignored their injury with the person who was out for a week because they took it easy and dealt with it immediately. Who attended more classes? Who has more mat time? Respecting injury doesn’t mean you’re quitting. You can still go to class, but you go and you modify. You ask your partners to tone it down. You bow out early, embrace the boredom, and learn from being an observer for a minute. Next time you get hurt, try this and see what happens . . . . . . #injury #injurymanagement #injuryrevcovery #sportsinjury #injuryrehab #injuryrehabilitation #martialartsinjury #kickboxinginjury #martialartsworld #martialartsforlife #martialartsislife #martialartsmotivation #martialartslover #martialartsvideo #martialartsphilosophy #martialartswisdom #martialartstraining #martialartslifestyle #martialartsfamily #kickboxingtraining #kickboxinglife #martialartslife #omjj #oldmanjiujitsu #jiujitsuover40 #bjjforlife #bjjforeveryone #lifelongmartialartist #lifelongmartialarts #lifelongmartialartists

if you’re curious about the practice or just want to see me get beat up on occasion . - I created this account because I know a lot of people who are athletic in some way but who find that, as they get older, it’s harder and harder to stick with it. I’m hoping that, as someone over 40 and still “in the game” so to speak, observing my practice might be helpful to others. I’ve learned some tricks along the way to being athletic without wrecking your body that I think are worth sharing. I’ll also give technique breakdowns both in terms of kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu as practical tidbits for anyone involved in these arts. I am by no means an expert, but I’m dedicated and consistent enough to have a bit of insight.
What’s great about injury, in a way, is that there are some things that you physically can’t work on. If your knees are blown out, you can’t roll in jiujitsu class. You have no choice. But you can work on your grip strength and practice hitting arm triangles and kimuras from side control. If your right arm is broken, you can't practice your right cross. You have no choice. But you can practice your jab or your kicks against the bag. The problem is that when we get injured, we throw our hands up and stop completely. This is a mistake. The way forward is to ask yourself, what can I do? What specific skill can I isolate? And then do that thing over and over and over again. If your right arm is out of commission, you can’t spar, but you can stand in front of the bag and throw one thousand roundhouse kicks. Nice and easy at first, just describing the proper motion, and then slowly build speed and power. And if your arm is out of commission for two months, then throw roundhouses against the bad relentlessly for two months. Do this, and when your arm is healed and you’re sparring again, see what happens . . . . . . #martialartsinjury #kickboxinginjury #martialarts4life #martialartsvideos #martialartsover40 #martialartsovereverything #lifelongmartialartist #lifelongmartialarts #lifelongmartialartists #kickboxingforlife #kickboxingforall #kickboxingforever #kickboxingforeveryone #martialartsforlife #martialartsislife #martialartsmotivation #martialartslover #martialartsvideo #martialartsphilosophy #martialartswisdom #taekwondoforlife #taekwondoforever #tkdforlife #tkdforever #tkd4life #martialartstraining #martialartslifestyle #taekwondolife #martialarts #martialartslife
