The returner’s partner usually start near the service line and waits to see what type of return their partner hits. If it’s a weak return and the opposing net player is going to poach it, the returner partner should move back to gain the time needed to possibly react to the incoming shot. But if the returner hits a great, crosscourt, deep return then the returner’s partner should usually live in closing off the net just like Venus. Then all four players try to follow the 80% rule (80% of your shots should be directed to the opponent who’s standing where you’re standing) for the duration of the point. 🏆
